Cristiano Ronaldo had been the winner of Italian Serie A and UEFA Nations League. He won titles for both the club and country. In 2018, let alone 2019, Cristiano scored 49 goals, which is more than Messi in 2019 (45), with a better ratio (0.94 to 0.85). Cristiano also scored 15 goals in the Champions League, more than Messi (12). In the UEFA Nations League, he scored and helped Portugal to win the title, whereas Messi was again a failure in national colours at Copa America. In 2019, Cristiano has more goals for club and country than Messi.

Ada Hegerberg, Luka Modric and Kylian Mbappé come up on to the stage for a chat with our presenters. Mbappé and Hegerberg both say the usual things about it being an honour to be back among the candidates in 2019.
By the way, if Lionel Messi is confirmed as the recipient of the 2019 Men's Ballon d'Or, that'll make it 11 years in a row that a LaLiga player has scooped the award, going back to Messi's first trophy win in 2009.
He was pretty useful at the Wanda yesterday, to be fair to the fella. His late winner took him to nine goals in nine LaLiga appearances in 2019/20, as Barça headed back to the top of the Primera División table.
Having lifted the Men's Ballon d'Or in four of the last five years, five-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo should never be ruled out, I guess. But although 2019 saw him win Serie A with Juventus and the UEFA Nations League with Portugal, he scored a relatively modest 21 league goals in his first season in Turin, and has an (also relatively modest) six in 11 in 2019/20. All the signs are that this'll be Messi's year...
We definitely know the Men's Ballon d'Or won't be retained this time around, as Modric did not make the 30-man shortlist for the 2019 prize, becoming the first holder not to be among the nominees the following year.
While the Women's Ballon d'Or and the men's under-21 Kopa Trophy made their debuts last year, the Yachine Trophy is a newcomer to the line-up of awards in 2019, and will recognise the outstanding goalkeeper in the men's game over the past year.
The man in the photo, who has already been named FIFA The Best Men's Player in 2019, is being strongly tipped to scoop a record sixth Ballon d'Or, in the process moving one ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo in the award's all-time ranking of winners.
Welcome to our live coverage of the 2019 Ballon d'Or gala at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, where no fewer than four awards are due to be handed out by the prestigious magazine France Football.

Morgan featured six times for Pride in the 2019 season and was unable to score any goals. She made up for this by netting six in the World Cup and sharing the top scorer status with Rapinoe and White.
The Norwegian sat the 2019 World Cup out but helped Lyon win both the league title and the Champions League. Her hat-trick in the European final saw Lyon lift the trophy for the fourth year running and rounded off a season goal tally of 23 goals across all competitions (excluding the Coupe de France).
Barcelona superstar attacker Lionel Messi won the 2019 Ballon d'Or during the 64th annual ceremony on Monday in Paris. The award was presented by France Football, recognizing the best player in the world for all of 2019. Messi beat Liverpool star defender Virgil van Dijk and Juventus man Cristiano Ronaldo to take home the award, winning it for a record sixth time, moving into sole possession of first for most wins all time. USWNT star Megan Rapinoe, who led her country to a World Cup title this summer, was named the winner of the 2019 women's Ballon d'Or.
On the women's side, Rapinoe completed her extraordinary year with one more trophy. Rapinoe won the Golden Boot and Golden Ball at the 2019 Women's World Cup, scoring six goals in just five games at the tournament. Rapinoe scored three times from the penalty spot in the World Cup, including against the Netherlands in the final.
Rapinoe, 34, was also named the FIFA Women's Player of the Year in 2019. She beat out England's Lucy Bronze and Alex Morgan, her American teammate, for the 2019 Ballon d'Or. Ada Hegerberg won the Ballon d'Or in 2018, the first year it was presented to women's players.
2ff7e9595c
